Listen To Yourself. Try Something New By Yourself.

Image
As a younger woman, a lot of people don't teach you to listen to your inner voice.  You have to listen to yourself and trust yourself first. For my life I have learned to listen to myself and to my inner voice.  A few weeks ago, a mutual acquaintance was telling me she was going from Los Angeles to Montana by herself to take some classes...and she mentioned it was the first time that she was going to go somewhere by herself, completely alone and meeting no one she knew..and she is 51 years old.   You know what I told her?  I told her it would be good for her.  I also told her I started going and doing things by myself when I was quite young.   To list a few. 1.  At age 18 I moved to Savannah GA to be a nanny and live and go to college.  I knew no one but the family I was living with. 2.  At age 21 I went to Thailand to be an exchange student.  I did not know anyone. 3.  At age 22 I went to Phuket, Thailand to work at a 5 sta...

Design Ideas. Blast To The Past.

Image
Sometimes looking to the past is the best inspiration for new design ideas.  Lately I have been working on some projects that involve vintage military inspired pieces.   I have found military stores, etsy and junk stores to be the best place to do my research.   The cool thing about etsy is that you can purchase the things you want if you like them.  I prefer to buy stuff in person.   Here are a few of my favorite pieces.   I love the patina on old leather bags...you can feel the years of use in the handles and straps. If only the bags could talk to me and tell me the journeys they have been on. San Diego has such a rich military history..I am just beginning to find some of the old vintage stores..

Life In The Slow Sunny Lane....La Jolla

Image
A year ago, I would have never guessed I would be living in the pristine beach community of La Jolla, CA.    I was living in rainy downtown Seattle in a small high-rise apartment.   Rain was my BFF and lack of direction for the future in the midst of closing down my handbag brand was my constant companion.   I did not see the writing on the wall...I just saw doom and gloom. Fast forward to 2013....I have been living in La Jolla for about one month.  The journey to get here was rather stressful and crazy, but I have to say, I am happy to be here, and happy for the opportunity to make a change for the better. The weather for me makes all the difference.  When you wake up and can go outside without getting soaked to the bone, its awesome.   Here are a few photos taken with my iphone.  They are not that good, but I love the sun and all that goes with it. Rocco and Dante seem to be happier here than stuck indoors in Seattle.  Pugs don't like...

June Already?

Image
Can't believe its almost June!  I don't notice the weather changes as much here in Southern CA as I did in Seattle.   In Seattle June is the beginning of summer, but it does not really start until July.   At any rate, whether we like it or not, school ends in one week, and we are getting our summer sandals ready for the Pacific Ocean.   Have a great summer! Do you remember salt water sandals?
