As adults we often look back at photos of our parents or grandparents and think they are wearing really weird outfits or crazy hairstyles.  Today my dad sent me a photo of his parents.   My Grandma Sauvage is still living.  She was born in 1911 and is 103 plus year old.   She has always been a very happy person.  I did not meet her until she was older (obviously), but she has always had a lot of energy and radiated health and happiness for many years… I wanted to share this photo of my grandparents because they were so beautiful.   I don't know if it was the era where everyone was normal weight and radiated health or it was just because they were happy and healthy people.   I was not there, but this photo just radiates vitality, joy and people in their prime. Christmas Eve we got ready for our annual Christmas Eve Concert at the La Jolla Presbyterian church across the street from our former apartment.  My good friend and neighbor, Brit lived a few blocks away.  After the concert we went out to eat and enjoy a glass of wine at Herringbone, an restaurant in La Jolla Village.  Afterwards I thought I would stop by and say hi to my good friend Brit, who lived a few blocks away.   I drove by her place and saw her sitting in the window next to her Christmas tree watching TV.  I texted her. (She is a texting Queen and had and IPHONE 7) She did not respond so I drove around the block, wondering if I should stop by anyway.   My gut said yes.  My daughter and I went to her door. She was delighted to see us.  We chatted for about five minutes and then I wished her a Merry Christmas and made plans to catch up soon. I have lived in La Jolla for about three years.  After Phuket, Thailand it is the most beautiful place I have ever lived in.  However, it is so not reality. Each week or so I got to Los Angeles or other places for my job.  When I am in Seattle or Los Angeles I feel normal. Yesterday I was walking home from the gym, this guy was on his cell phone, "And I want to sue so and so for this..and call this company and threaten to sue them."  (he was a wealthy older guy on his phone with his retained attorney-clearly.)  I was like, Whatever, get a hobby instead of going around threatening to sue everyone. When I come back to La Jolla, I deal with people complaining because the type of shampoo the dog groomer used on "Fido" is the wrong scent.  One each corner there is a sandwich sign for doggie massage, Facelifts, liposuction, kybella, fat dissolving, IVF, lip implants and programs for your spoiled children.  The children call my dark skinned daughter the N...

What a heartbreaking week.  This week I had to do something that was more difficult that I had anticipated.  Dante The Pug-the namesake behind Rocco e Dante handbags passed away.  For the past year he has had worsening doggy dementia.  He still enjoyed walking a bit and eating but the constant barking at walls in the middle of the night was getting unbearable.  We tried Xanax and a few different tranquilizers that the vet gave us.  Sometimes the meds would wear off at 3 am and he would bark for hours at the wall. It just got to the point where I knew it was time.  I held him when he was given his medicine to go to sleep.   Dante did not know what was going on as he was only partly there mentally.  It was a difficult situation but the actual event was peaceful.  The vets at Wind and Sea Vets in La Jolla, CA were kind and very caring.
