 I was up late the other night watching YouTube videos of TLC reality shows.  I came across one of their more ridiculous shows  "Trophy Wives" about these young women in Beverly Hills who are married to old billionaires.  I started to watch a trailer of one of the shows and one of the reality stars  reminded me of my friend Sonia White.   I had lost touch with Sonia in the past few years so I decided to google her to see if I could find her on online.  I put her name into google and instead of finding her on facebook,  I got her obituary.   It broke my heart and I could not sleep the rest of the night.

Sonia and I met in 1995 in Seattle when she was dating my boss at Champion Footwear.  She would come into the office once in a while and I got to know her.  She was a slim, beautiful 22 year old girl with amazing black curly hair.   She was super sweet and I really liked her.   She ended up moving to Manhattan Beach, CA with her boyfriend.  In 1999 I ended up moving to Hermosa Beach and I started hanging out with her again.   We would go out to Hollywood, Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach and had a lot of fun.   I was her friend through an engagement, breakup, unemployment, new jobs, boyfriends, etc then I got engaged and married, she met my husband, came to my milestone birthday parties and we kept in touch on a regular basis.

When I moved to San Diego and I was commuting to Los Angeles she would let me crash at her apartment in El Segundo.  One time I even went on a blind date with her because she was too nervous, the guy owned an orchid farm somewhere in Southern California, he was about 5 feet tall and showed up with a boutique of orchids, needless to say it was not a love connection..LOL.  We had a good laugh about that one for years to come.

One time we did a "just for fun" photo shoot together.  I still have the photos and posted them here as a memorial to her fun spirit and beautiful smile.  She was so gorgeous!

Many years later I moved to Seattle and started my handbag brand Rocco e Dante.  I would often go to Los Angeles for trade shows and I would meet up with Sonia for dinner and drinks.   She was very supportive of my brand and bought a few of my handbags.   The last time I saw her I was on a business trip to Los Angeles and we went out for dinner in Santa Monica.  She moved to Hawaii later that year and we kept in touch via email and eventually we lost touch....until now.

She was one of those lights you meet in life that goes out too soon.   I will remember her sweet smile and laugh over the details of her leaving this world.    Rest in Peace my sweet friend.  You were so beautiful.

Fashion Accessories Lead Time

As a freelance fashion designer and consultant I spent a lot of time educating my clients about the process.   There have been many times where after I design a handbag or accessories collection for a client the expect to have the samples in a few weeks.   I put this timeline together to educate people that are new to the fashion industry about the lead time. Designing and launching a fashion collection of handbags or other accessories is extremely time consuming and complicated.  There are many steps to the process and it takes months (not weeks) to launch a line. My goal as a fashion consultant is not only to make beautiful products that sell but also to manage the complicated process for my clients.  I enjoy the process and have been managing this product development and production process for 15 years.   It is amazing to see your sketch turn into a final wearable product! We Don't Exist to Please People

  Don't allow anyone to take away your happiness or your life because they are not comfortable with the choices you have made in FOR YOUR OWN LIFE.  The  title is a bit misleading. I don't exist to please people. It took me a long time to figure that out. One of the main things I noticed after I was about 30 years of age and got married was that I had a lot of people noticing how I lived my life, my career, my house, and basically everything in general. Before I got married I was a bit of a nomad and traveled all over the world. At that time, if people were judging me, I was too busy flying to Thailand or Amsterdam to notice, and my house was a rented room on the beach in Los Angeles.  After I got married, the criticism started rolling in like Thunder. First, it was, my apartment or house was not big enough. (sorry rent is sky-high in Los Angeles), then when we bought our first house, it was still not big enough.
