My Experience with AirBNB

Image
In the past few months a lot of people have asked me about my personal experiences with AirBNB. I have used AirBNB in Los Angeles and Seattle to date.  As a single white female  I am pretty careful about what types of bookings I make in Los Angeles. As most people know, Los Angeles is a huge sprawling city with lots of great neighborhoods and many pockets of seedy neighborhoods that are part of the landscape of a crazy urban wasteland. I normally look for listings that have a separate entrance or studio on the property.  I do not book listings where it is a private room inside the home of a stranger.   I am no longer a college student and do not feel comfortable just crashing in a bedroom in a random  house.   I have to have my own entrance and bathroom.   I am not an expert on Los Angeles but I do try to find locations that are safe. The first place I booked was a studio attached to a house in Mt. Washington.  The listing said it was in a ...

AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles!

Image
June 5th - June 11th, over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.   This year, I’ll be one of them! Wow! I can't believe it. The services provided as a result of this event mean the world to those who receive them, and your support means the world to me . HIV/AIDS affects different people in different ways. My daughter is an AIDS orphan and her biological mother and younger sister passed away from this disease. I think its important to bring awareness, education and help to this cause because it affects many lives from a wide variety of backgrounds. I was also inspired to do this ride by my high school friends Danny Baker and Nickey Collier who have dedicated many hours and training to this wonderful event. We’re working together to make HIV...

Fashion Shoot Handbags for Vertigo!

Image
As a designer I am always excited when my designs come out looking fabulous!  I have blogged about the Vertigo brand in the past few months.   We have many fun and trendy collections in production that I designed for the brand.  I designed the bags from first sketch through to production. I also handled all the product development since the handbag department was a new department for the company.  Right now I am the handbag department. (: I coordinated a photo shoot for the newest collection.  Here are some shots from the shoot, these are more for the website (not editorial).  When doing a photo fashion shoot for handbags its important to keep the bag the center of the photo.  As you can see the model is dressed in simple dark denim skinny  jeans, a black tank top and black booties.  Her hair and make up are kept simple.  The bags are meant to be the centerpiece in each shot. Check out a few shots here below: Design by Tara Sauva...

Entrepreneur Success. Suja Juice. Blawnde.

Image
Success.     This word means different things to different people.     My idea of ultimate success is doing what you love and being super successful at it.   An entrepreneur at heart, I have always tried to find a way to do what I love and make money doing it.   I have been able to do what I love and make a living doing it, but I have never been able to be make a killing yet.    I have started a few brands over the years but nothing has made it to top.   (I will try again.) However I run into people in real life that are often able to find that passion and make a killing while doing what they love.   One of those uber success stories is my neighbor Annie. For the past few years, I would often run into an attractive young blonde in our apartment building in La Jolla and we would exchange pleasantries.   Our exchanges were always related to fashion because she was always wearing amazing handbags and cute outfits.   She w...
