Grief

Image
I have not experienced a lot of grief from loss in the past decades.  I have a lost a few grandparents, but they were older and since I did not see them on a daily basis, the grief was less of a process.  I cried at the funeral and when I thought of them later on, but I did not feel that heart wrenching sadness you feel when you lose a child, spouse or parent, that you hear about.  I have lost a few good friends and get sad when I think about them and still do, but its not that gut wrenching sadness. Almost 12 years ago I was walking on the Strand in Manhattan Beach.  This lady was walking two beautiful pugs and I fell in love with them right away.   I asked her where she got the pugs, so she invited me into her mansion on The Strand while she got the phone number of her breeder. Less than two years later, I put a deposit down on one of those lovely pugs and I had my own pug baby in March of 2004.   We named him Rocco Sauvage LoGiudice and he was so bea...

2013. We Don't Know What the Future Holds...

Image
So here we are..at the end of 2013.    What a year it has been!  Last year at this time I was crammed into a super small 750 square foot apartment in downtown Seattle with 2 adults, one kid and two pugs.  Needless to say it was a bit cramped! Now I am living in an amazing location with sun on a daily basis!  Right now I am watching my favorite pug Rocco live out his last days.   When he first started to lose his ability to walk, the vet suggested thousands of dollars worth of MRI's and other expensive procedures, but my gut told me to just take care of Rocco at home.  I knew he was dying.  Today he is still eating but there is a lot of blood in his stool.  I want him to die at home with us, not to be euthanized by a cold Vet who charges $200 just for the procedure.   I have not decided what to do 100% but the main thing is that the dog does not suffer and we feel good about our decision. I wish everyone has a great holiday season and...

Rocco Sauvage - Still In The Fashion Game...

Image
I like to build brands.  It could be my brand it could be someone else's brand, but the bottom line is that I love to create.   It may not be successful and it maybe a bit hit...you never know until you try and find out.  Failure is part of being an entrepreneur or even an employee.   You will make mistakes if you have your own company and you will make mistakes on the job working for someone else.   I have found that having my own brand is more stressful then working for someone else.  You have further to fall when you do fall.  Just get up again. I don't fear failure because I have already failed a million times, but I am still here in the fashion game.  Fashion is either in your DNA or its not.  You either love it or hate it.  I still like to go through my leather swatches and magazines.   I will probably be 80 and have some type of business related to fashion, I just don't see it changing because its so much a part of ...

Design and Consulting. Free, Cheap or None Of The Above?

Image
I have blogged about the topic of free fashion consulting before.   I get requests every once in a while...recently I got an email from an aspiring designer.  She wanted to know if she could call me to discuss her brand, what factory I recommended for her to produce at, and more questions regarding production and sourcing for her handbag brand.   When she contacted me I was in the middle of a week long business trip out of state.   I emailed her back and said I would be available next week and would be glad to set up a time to chat with her about my rates and to see if we were a good fit.  Guess what? She did not respond back. Why? Because she wanted me to spend time with her and give out my contacts for no charge.  This happens in a lot of industries and especially in fashion. I have over 15 yrs experience in the industry and it never ceases to amaze me that people expect me to spent 2 hours on the phone with them for free giving them all my contacts. ...
